Thank you for joining Gavin, myself, and everyone participating in this challenge. Here is the original post, outlining the challenge. Over 4 weeks, we hope to inspire you to find out more, and take on tasks to help you get more prepared, using the OARS method - Organise, Acquire, Restock, and Spread the Word. It’s about creating awareness, and finding motivation to do it!
Week Two - Acquire - Posts So Far
Acquire - Step One (Task 1 - Consider what you will need)
Acquire - Step Two (Task 2 - Set up your Storage area, Task 3 - Gather & Make an Inventory of What you Have)
OK, we have some space cleared & set up for all these things we want to acquire. But rather than working with a huge list of things you need, I have broken it all into these 'needs' lists:
Stay At Home (below)
Evacuate (grab bags & car kits, covered in it's own post)
Stockpiling (this needs it own posts too!)
You might already have these things listed below, may be able to make do with what you have. If you need to buy these items, try hardware stores, camping & outdoors stores, online stores, opshops, secondhand stores, on Ebay or similiar, or your local classifieds. (NB. I've provided some links, but have not necessarily bought from these myself, but to show you what I am talking about!) You DO NOT have to get everything listed below... in some sections, I have simply included several options for you to consider!
Acquire - Step Three (Task 4 - Gather items for Stay at Home Needs)
Remember, this challenge is based around short term emergencies, though many of these things are important for longer term situations too. Plus, as I am not an expert by any means, here are some links for you to check out:
